this is where i was when michelle obama and mayor castro spoke last night. it's a very good sight lines to the podium right there over my shoulder in that direction. there are people down there doing walkthroughs for the events of the day. it's an intimate arena and very vertical. most of the seats are somewhat close to the stage. they are great acoustics in here, that speech last night, both of them had a lot of power and a lot of electricity. the room was really alive when this happens. as you look down on pt floor, you'll see it's a relatively small floor. in fact, there are only seven statement delegations on floor of the convention, illinois and delaware and north carolina, the host state, of course, and key swing state, the other states on the floor with the beth seats are virginia, colorado, nevada, iowa, key important battleground states, states like new york very blue are way up in the rafters where you can't even see. they have a great view anyway every manner of jumbotron and video screen here. while the campaign is trying to downplay the signific

that is michelle obama. we have to remember that most first ladies until the television age never gave a speech. among those who have, there has never been a speaker who could deliver what we just saw. it was not a terribly partisan speech. it did not get into nitty gritty divisive politics, the details in politics. she did make some very simple statements about what her husband has delivered in office. what you had in the room was a real powerful connection. it was tangible. it is real. and it is very hard to judge this from where i'm standing but it felt like she was delivering it onscreen also. it was very difficult to be introducing barack obama but it did have that element of introduction. framed in terms of reminder. one of the most striking passages was when she went into a refrain about why she loves barack obama. that is a difficult piece of writing to, for a wife to say publicly. this is why i love this man. it is difficult to make it convincing in a context, in an arena like this. it was, i think,

i think that michelle obama gave a great speech tonight. but there are some really big takeaways here from the democrat national convention. that's what you didn't hear tonight. first of all, you didn't hear president obama or any of his surrogates tonight talking about the fact that americans are not better off than they were four years ago. there's been all kinds of discussions about whether we are better off than we were four year ace go. the reason we went six hours without having one surrogate -- >> would you agree that we are better off than we were 3 1/2 years ago? >> no. because we still have 23 million people unemployed. >> the first half year of barack obama obama was just a financial meltdown. brought on by eight years of republican administration. >> let's go back and look at his promises. we can look at his promises from his convention speech four years ago where he said he was going to create more jobs and get the debt down. i think it is very symbolic of something you didn't hear. the national debt reached $16 trillion. that'
